Student centred national and international Academic Programmes based on active learning

From the Early Learning Centre to High School, Işıkkent applies the Ministry of Education Curriculum as a framework for the outcomes and teaching approaches. However, in order to achieve the same standards with well-known educational institutions, Işıkkent gives importance to the application of international teaching programmes. Within this framework, Işıkkent School is a CIS (Council of International Schools) and CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) authorised school. By fulfilling the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organisation) requirements, Işıkkent has become the first IB-PYP (Primary Years Programme) and IB MYP (Middle Years Programme) accredited school in the Aegean Region and recently has gained the honor of having IB-DP accreditation.

Işıkkent School is the one and only school in the Aegean Region and one of the eight schools in Turkey that implements all three IB Programmes (PYP – MYP – DP) from preschool to the end of high school.

Quality education with international standards.
After being accredited for K-8 level in December 2008, Işıkkent Schools were accredited by the CIS (Council of International Schools) for High School after its first HS graduation in July 2011. CIS is a non-profit organisation, which is formed by schools and institutions collaborating to improve international education. The CIS accreditation process includes “School Evaluation and Development” and its aim is to improve the quality of education in relevant schools. The “Accreditation Award” received by the school indicates that the school meets internationally recognised educational standards and commits itself to constant improvement.

Along with the Ministry of Education programme, Işıkkent applies the IB Programmes, which is completely parallel to the Işıkkent education philosophy. Işıkkent has adopted this student centred transdisciplinary teaching and learning method, which considers learners as an active part of the learning process who are unique and have different needs. Işıkkent School is the one and only school in the Aegean Region and one of the seven schools in Turkey that implements all three IB Programmes (PYP – MYP – DP) from preschool to the end of high school.

International Youth Award is a personal development programme which is available to all young people aged between 14 and 24. The aim of the programme is to equip young people with the necessary life skills to make a difference in their own lives as well as the society and the world they live in. Since it was launched in 1956 by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, more than 8 million young people from 140 countries took part in the Award.

Isikkent High School has started to deliver the programme after signing the sub-licence agreement with the National Office of the Duke of Edingburgh’s International Award on March 11th, 2019. An “Award Unit”, which consists of an award coordinator, a supervisor and award leaders, has also been established at our school.

86 of our Prep, Grade 9, 10 and 11 students have started to take part in the various categories of the programme. By delivering the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, we aim to help our students develop holistically and recognize their potential.
