USING POCKET MONEY TO MAKE A BUDGET 13.01.2023

Grade 4 students explored a few methods to make a “budget” as part of their second line of inquiry in Social Sciences. In their BCT English Class, they learned how to manage their pocket money and how to plan their savings and expenses. They brought pocket money of 30 TL from home and shopped in the MS canteen with it. They wrote down the products they bought from the canteen on paper. They discovered how much money they can spend and save weekly, monthly, and yearly by using the paper designed to make a budget. They showed their expenses and savings through fractions. They planned the pocket money they will have when they move on to middle school the next year. Afterward, they hosted Gulgun Caglar, a former bank director, at school to reinforce their knowledge of the subject. They watched an informative presentation on “how money works”, “how money has been used from past to present”, “what banks do” and “what interest is”. After comprehending the importance of making a budget, they made it with the theme of “Let the Dream-Goal-Saving Journey Begins” and were given budget books as a gift to help them manage their budgets.
