EXPERIMENTING AND OBSERVING IN THE CHEMISTRY LAB 23.11.2022

Grade 9 and 11 DP students heated metal salts for energy absorption and excited electrons in the Chemistry Lab as part of their unit entitled “Atom and Periodic Table”. When the electrons were excited from a lower to a higher energy level, they got unstable and dropped to a lower energy level, bringing out the light. In this intriguing experiment, our students saw the flames of metals in color because the wavelength of this light emitted from metals is usually in the visible region. However, since the structure of each metal atom is different, the energy released was also different and the light appeared at different wavelengths, which made the students see the flames of metals differently.
