WORLD WATER DAY 22.03.2023

22 March World Water Day was celebrated with various activities in our Kindergarten and Primary School. In line with the goal of the United Nations this year "Accelerating Change", our students carried out various activities not only for 1 day but for the whole week. In our ELC classrooms, we cut off water for a while to understand the importance of water and its place in our lives. Our students tried to wash their hands with the water they carried from the garden. After hand washing, they watered their plants in the classroom with the remaining water. They read books, watched videos, had conversations about the importance of water. They squeezed vegetables and fruits to find out the amount of water in the vegetables and fruits we ate. They experimented with dirty and clean water. With the slogan "Design for Change" at all levels, they wrote and drew our duties to provide access to clean water and to prevent water pollution and drought on the papers given in the form of water drops. They realized the importance of water through the activities they did all day long.

Our Primary School students also engaged in interconnected activities from 1st grade to 4th grade. First, our 1st grade students drew attention to the subject with the photographs they compiled about the "importance of water", while our 2nd grade students both made studies based on the story book they read on "Water Footprint" and compiled news from our country and the world about water. Our 3rd graders conducted research on "Access to Clean Water" by examining the UN Global Goals. They investigated the applications made to solve the problem. Then they offered their own solutions. They also examined the "Sponge City" project of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and showed what was done on their posters. Thus, they raised awareness of the subject. To summarize all this information and take action, our 4th grade students distributed posters to the dining tables showing the amount of water spent on Friday's meal in the cafeteria. They prepared questionnaires and observation forms to measure water consumption at home. As a result of all these data, they made inferences and presented the results to the whole primary school in the assembly by showing them with graphs. In addition to all these, our Eco School students exhibited the pictures, poems, posters and writings they collected from all classes on a board on the ground floor of the primary school. The entire school community is welcome to visit our exhibition.
