TALKING ABOUT THE WRONGS WE THINK WERE RIGHT WITH ÖZGÜR BOLAT 14.01.2017

In his seminar “Teaching Old Dogs New Tricks: Things You Thought Were True About Education”, Bolat emphasized how individuals could not be successful unless they are raised as happy individuals. Bolat gave tips on sustainable happiness and pointed out how the exam based education system raises an unhappy generation, one without goals, one which feels unsuccessful due to the competitive nature of the system – a system which overlooks students’ differences and results in individuals trapped between four answer choices. He stated that the education system should be skills, rather than success, oriented; and that parents should raise independent individuals- ones who would be the representation of true affection and love. He reminded parents to "focus on the child they have, not the one they want ", and to love their children unconditionally. "A child in need of approval always expects to be rewarded. If the mother is anxious, the child becomes insecure. Be careful when you criticise your child since the underlying message of criticism is ' I do not accept you as you are, I want to change you'. If you do not consider a child as an independent individual, you cannot establish true love in your relationship, you simply develop emotional dependence. Each child has 4 basic needs: relationship, development, autonomy and learning. Do not create a sense of incompleteness in children." Bolat added. Parents who attended the "Towards tomorrow" seminar series acquired new information on how to discover and develop the talents of their children and how to support them. "Towards Tomorrow" seminar series will continue in the coming months with the participation of expert speakers on different topics in order to contribute to the raising of happy, healthy and successful generations.
