PHILOSOPHICAL DISCUSSIONS WITH PROF. DR. SOLMAZ ZELYUT 11.06.2021
IEK Philosophy Club hosted Prof. Dr. Solmaz Zelyut, who explained the pandemic and lockdown process to our students from a philosophical perspective. After talking about various subjects such as Foucault’s approach towards the relationship between epidemics and the government as well as the link between epidemics and fundamental freedoms, biopolitics and how crises lead to new rule systems, Prof. Dr. Solmaz Zelyut assessed these times with references from Byung-Chul Han, Derrida, Husserl, Deleuze, Kafka and Naomi Klein. After saying “each story tells an issue” and stating that Sinbad the Sailor is a permanent metaphor of the human ignorance, Prof. Dr. Solmaz Zelyut told that our interest in the ecosystem was disrupted due to the pandemic and suggested we should immediately stop believing that we are the master of the nature and serve the ecology.
