IZMIR TRIP 07.12.2023

As 4th graders, in this unit, we organized a trip to get to know Izmir, the city we live in, based on the central idea of "Learning about those who lived before us helps us understand today and tomorrow." We started our trip from Kadifekale, one of the oldest settlements of Izmir, located on a hill at the foot of Pagos Mountain. We continued by visiting the ancient city of Agora, an extension of the castle. We learned which civilizations have lived here from the past to the present and the impact of civilizations on each other and on the present day. We took the Historical Elevator built in 1907 and examined the houses on both sides of Dario Moreno Street leading to the elevator from the outside. We saw the Clock Tower, the symbol of Izmir, and the monument of Hasan Tahsin, one of the heroes of the national struggle. Finally, we visited the Izmir Culture and Art Factory and examined the outstanding examples of painting, sculpture and ceramic art from the 19th century to the present day. We realized our responsibilities to protect our cultural heritage from the past to the present. We enriched the work we did in class throughout the unit with what we learned on our trip.
