GRADE 11 İZMİR TRİP 20.12.2016

Friday 16th December, Grade 11 students enjoyed exploring the İzmir’s  history, architecture and cultural inheritance. First of all we visited the Höyük, both a few seconds, yet thousands of years away from us. We were informed about the Neolithic settlement and perused the artefacts unearthed there. We then visited the Arkas Art Gallery and appreciated some fine watercolours and sketches depicting Anatolia through the eyes of Western travelers. We made a brief visit to the Women’s Museum in Basmane, the streets of Basmane proved more interesting than the museum! İzmir’s iconic clock tower, Konak Pier and the Historical Elevator (Asansör) provided further examples of diverse architectural styles reflecting the mood of the time. We finished our trip with a visit to the beautifully preserved, impressive Uşakizade Köşk which was both informative and moving.
