FOLLOWING THE TRACES OF HISTORY 24.10.2022

As a result of the collaboration between the Social Sciences Department and the Turkish Language & Literature Department, Grade 10 students went on a trip to Sardes-Kula to experience observation and research methods and gain awareness about nature by tackling the interactions between natural systems, nature, and human beings through a historical, philosophical and literary perspective.

During their trip, our students visited the capital of the Kingdom of Lydia, which is located in Salihli (Manisa), and the Sardes Ancient City (Gymnasium – Synagogue), where money was born, the Royal Road begins and is the hometown of Croesus known for his wealth. Then, they moved on to Kula (Katakekaumene), which is known as “Yanık Ülke” (Burnt Country) due to the lava erupted by the surrounding volcanic mountains and hills in the ancient history, and carried out a field survey in the fairy chimneys, which were formed due to the erosion in tuffs by rainfall near Divlit Volcano, the youngest volcano in Turkey, and Burgaz Village. Before ending their trip, our students walked on the narrow streets of Kula to see the old Ottoman houses there.
