EXCURSION AND OBSERVATION IN SARDES AND KULA 13.10.2023

Our 10th grade students participated in a trip to Sardes and Kula as part of the unit they covered in class, adopting a philosophical and literary perspective about natural systems and interactions between nature and historical human beings they learned in Social Sciences and Turkish Language and Literature lessons. They visited the ancient city of Sardes (Gymnasium - Synagogue), the capital of the Lydian Kingdom, the city where money was invented, the beginning of the famous King's Road, the homeland of Karun, whose name is synonymous with wealth, located within the borders of Salihli district of Manisa. Then they went to Kula, which was known as the "Burnt Country" (Katakekaumene) because of the lava spewed by the volcanic mountains and hills around it in ancient times. They did field work at Divlit Volcano, the youngest volcano in Turkey, and fairy chimneys with an aesthetic appearance formed by the erosion of rocks in the tuff structure by rainwater near Burgaz Village. In the last part of the trip, they took a walk in the narrow streets of Kula and ended the trip by seeing the historical houses from the Ottoman period.
