A JOURNEY THROUGH THE HISTORY OF IZMIR 15.12.2017

Our History and Literature departments organised a trip for Grade 11 students by building on the aim to raise generations, who know, protect and improve their own culture and civilization. During the trip, Grade 11 students realized the cultural and historical value of the city they live in and tried to answer the questions “what is a museum?” and “why and how do we visit a museum?”. They visited the “Uşakizade Mansion”, in which our Great Leader Atatürk spent time making important decisions; the “Clock Tower”, which has been one of the most beautiful and delicate symbols of İzmir since 1901; the “Tarihi Asansör” (Historical Elevator), which was built in 1907 and has been a classic since then; the “Konak Pier”, which was designed by the famous French architect and civil engineer Gustave Eiffel in 1890; the “Atatürk Museum”, which was used as a military quarters in 1922 and also used by Atatürk for individual purposes during Izmir Economic Congress held on February 17th, 1923; and the “Izmir Press Museum”, in which the students watched how media technologies have evolved through history.
