A CULTURAL HERITAGE JOURNEY: İZMİR TOUR WITH OUR 4TH GRADERS 28.11.2025

Inspired by our unit’s central idea, “The cultural heritage of communities shapes our present along with the environment and events,” our 4th grade students explored the city they live in through an İzmir cultural heritage tour. We began our journey at the Ancient Agora, one of the oldest settlements in İzmir, where students learned which civilizations once lived there and how these civilizations influenced one another and helped shape the present day. Next, we visited the historic Asansör (Elevator), built in 1907, and observed the traditional houses lining the well-known Dario Moreno Street. We continued our exploration at two iconic landmarks of the city—the İzmir Clock Tower and the monument of Hasan Tahsin, a national hero of the Turkish War of Independence—witnessing important elements of our city’s history firsthand. Throughout the trip, our students developed a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving cultural heritage passed down from past to present. By reinforcing what they learned in class with real-life observations, they enriched their learning journey in a meaningful way.
