WORLD ANIMAL DAY: THINKING, NOTICING AND TAKING ACTION 05.10.2026

On World Animal Day, our Grade 1–4 students focused on recognising animals’ needs and taking small but meaningful actions to protect them. Starting with the question, “If I were an animal, what would I need?”, our students thought about animals’ basic needs and shared their ideas. As they explored needs such as water, food, safe habitats and care, they also inquired into what we can do to protect animals and support their well-being. Our students then chose a small action related to one of the needs they had identified. By completing simple actions such as leaving out a bowl of water, feeding animals or taking steps to protect their habitats, they connected their learning to real-life experiences. At the end of the week, our students photographed their actions with their families and shared their experiences with the school community. We brought together their photographs from Grades 1–4 to create our World Animal Day display. Through this experience, we supported our students in recognising the needs of animals, developing sensitivity towards living things and turning their ideas into action in real-life contexts. Together, we experienced how small steps can create meaningful change when they come together.
