WORKING ON HER SDG PROJECT 26.01.2021

Since last October our Grade 11 student Idil İra has been working on a project along with her friends to help women in rural areas get access to technology and work towards achieving 7 of the sustainable development goals. Prior to developing the project Idil received an 8-week training program on the SDGs, and then formed a group with students all around Turkey (and even one person from Vancouver, Canada) and they developed ideas about how to achieve the SDG goals. They developed their projects, reported their findings, and have tried to contact different civil society organizations, government agencies, and big names like UNDP in order to make their project come to life. During this process, they became one of the first students in Turkey to receive this training and become SDG youth leaders. This has been an incredible experience for İdil in developing skills needed to be a great IBDP student and has allowed her to gain CAS experience that hopefully, she can turn into a CAS project. Most importantly, this experience has gotten İdil closer to her dreams of working in civil society for the betterment of her community and has allowed her to take action to create the change she wishes to see in the world.
