THE LANGUAGE OF NATURE IN ELC 3: OBSERVATION, DISCOVERY, AND THE “SPRING NEWSPAPER” 16.04.2026

Since the beginning of March, the observation activities we have been conducting with our ELC 3 students as part of our interdisciplinary theme, “How the World Works,” have progressed through experiences that have enriched our journey of discovering nature. Guided by the central idea that “Observation helps us notice changes and cycles in nature,” our students began to notice changes in their surroundings by carefully examining our schoolyard, the trees, the animals, and the sky. Throughout this process, our students recorded their observations, shared them with their peers, and interpreted them together. By discovering blooming trees, the increasing sounds of birds, hardworking ants, and lengthening days, they experienced seasonal changes in a concrete way. As a action plan activity, they expressed the arrival of spring in Işıkkent by turning their observations into a newspaper. The ELC 3 classes made this enjoyable learning experience visible as the “Spring Newspaper” and shared these newspapers folded into napkin-sized pieces with our school community in the cafeteria.
