İSTEMİ GÜREL’S VALUABLE LEGACY CONTINUES TO LIVE ON AT IŞIKKENT 19.05.2026

As part of the Işıkkent Aquathlon Festival held at our school, our Sports Center was officially named in honor of our founding elder, Mr. İstemi Gürel, whose vision and contributions have left a lasting mark on our institutional culture. During the Sports Center Naming Ceremony, Mr. İstemi Gürel delivered the opening speech and shared the story of Işıkkent Education Campus’s journey from its foundation to the present day. He emphasized the significant contributions of the late Mr. Öner Akgerman in establishing the school and noted that he himself had played an active role throughout every stage of the founding process. Mr. Gürel also recalled his time as the kindergarten’s beloved “Storytelling Grandfather,” sharing stories with young students. He spoke about bringing educational toys from his travels abroad and explained how he and the late Handan Oktar collaboratively designed activities and learning experiences around those materials. In his remarks, Mr. Taha Aksoy, Chairman of the Board of ÇESVAK, stated that naming the Sports Center after Mr. İstemi Gürel is a meaningful expression of gratitude and recognition on behalf of the institution. With the Sports Center now bearing the name of Mr. İstemi Gürel, the invaluable legacy he has contributed to education and to generations of students will continue to live on at Işıkkent.
