FROM LIMITED RESOURCES TO SUSTAINABLE CITIES 07.04.2026

As Grade 4 students, we continued our unit of inquiry under the central idea, “Using resources wisely ensures a fair and sustainable future,” through engaging sessions with Urban Planner Dr. Hitay Baran. Within this scope, we explored limited and unlimited resources, placing a special focus on water as one of our most critical limited resources, and researched lakes both in Türkiye and around the world. Through a variety of activities, we developed a deeper understanding of the importance of water conservation and made meaningful connections to sustainable living. As our students explored what sustainable living means and what individuals can do to support it, they began designing models of sustainable cities to bring their learning into a tangible form. To deepen this understanding, during our guest talk, students had the opportunity to learn more about the profession of urban planning and gained valuable insights into how sustainable living spaces can be created. They also enriched their learning by asking their questions directly to an expert. This meaningful experience not only increased our students’ awareness of a sustainable future but also helped them build strong connections with real-life contexts.
