FROM DISCOVERY TO ACTION: THE JOURNEY OF MATERIALS 02.04.2026
As the ELC 1 Lotus class, we experienced a rich learning journey in our “Materials” unit, exploring the properties of different materials. In line with our central idea, we actively used our senses by observing textures and colors, and we reflected on the concept of function by questioning how materials are used in different ways. By examining similarities and differences, we developed our comparison and classification skills. Throughout the unit, we deepened our understanding through the concepts of form, function, causation, and connection. We also explored how materials relate to our lives through ideas such as senses, transformation, quantity, and sustainability. As inquirers, thinkers, and risk-takers, we participated actively and approached materials from a holistic perspective. In the action phase, we focused on the questions: “How can the materials we use be transformed and reused, and what can we do for a sustainable life?” We invited the primary student council to our classroom and produced recycled paper together. We completed this meaningful process with excitement, knowing that our recycled paper would serve a real purpose, and with an awareness of contributing to a more sustainable future.
