A PANEL BY OUR HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT ON AMIN MAALOUF’S SAMARKAND 08.12.2025

Our High School Social Sciences Department organized a comprehensive panel exploring Amin Maalouf’s Samarkand from multiple perspectives—from the novel’s historical background and literary structure to Omar Khayyam’s philosophy, the tensions between power and belief, and the symbolic journey of the Samarkand manuscript. In this engaging session where history, literature, and philosophy intersected, participants discussed the novel’s historical context, narrative techniques, the Rubaiyat and its intellectual layers, themes of power, ethics, and faith, as well as the cultural significance of the manuscript. We extend our thanks to all students and teachers who participated and contributed to this enriching event.
